Many lights throughout the retreat are controlled by push-button dimmer switches. These switches push in to turn on/off and turn to adjust brightness. Because of the size of the home, one light may be controlled by more than one switch, sometimes in different areas of the room.
🔘 Turning Lights On & Off
Press the knob inward → turns the light ON or OFF
Turn the knob left to right → increases brightness
Turn the knob right to left → decrease brightness
If nothing happens when you alter a switch, the light may already be controlled by another switch elsewhere in the room. If you suspect a light is blown, please let us know.
🔄 Adjusting Brightness
Turn the knob clockwise → brighter
Turn the knob counter-clockwise → dimmer
Some lights must be turned up slightly before they will turn on. The lights do not need to be completely on or completely off, you may adjust to your preference.
🏠 Multiple Switches, One Light (Important)
Some rooms have multiple switches controlling the same light
If a light doesn’t turn on:
Try adjusting the dimmer, not just pressing it
Check for another switch nearby (walls, entrances, hallways)
This is normal for the home and not a malfunction.
💡 Additional Water Lounge Lighting (Plug-In)
You may notice additional lights positioned above the pool area. These are intentional and safely anchored, and can be plugged in or unplugged as needed.
Why they’re there:
To provide extra brightness when swimming at night
To improve visibility during gatherings or pool use
To allow flexible lighting without permanently increasing glare
How to use them:
Plug in the light(s) if additional illumination is desired
Unplug when no longer needed
Lights are secured in place and designed for this purpose
Important notes:
These lights are optional, the pool has standard lighting
Please ensure hands are dry when plugging or unplugging
Do not reposition, hang additional items from, or adjust the fixtures
⚠️ Helpful Tips
If a light seems “off” but won’t turn on, it may be dimmed all the way down
Turn the knob slightly, then press again
Take a moment to find the combination that works — once set, it usually stays consistent
If the light still doesn't work:
Electrical & Breaker Reset: Contact Us
At Hilltop Retreat, guest safety is extremely important. The property is equipped with electrical protection systems designed to prevent overheating, overloads, and electrical hazards.
In some situations, excessive electrical usage may cause a breaker to trip. When this happens, certain lights, outlets, or appliances may temporarily stop working. Common signs include:
Lights not turning on
Microwave or stove clocks resetting
Outlets or appliances losing power
This is not typically a malfunction. It is a safety response from the electrical system.
Important: Guests Do Not Have Access to the Breaker Room
For safety, liability, and insurance reasons, guests are not permitted access to the electrical/breaker room under any circumstances.
If you experience a power issue during your stay, please submit a service request through the platform or contact the property manager directly. A member of our team will attend the property to inspect and reset the breaker if necessary.
If the Issue Continues
If breakers continue to trip repeatedly after being reset, this usually indicates that too many high-powered devices are being used simultaneously on the same circuit.
Examples may include:
Portable heaters
Hair dryers and styling tools
Multiple kitchen appliances running together
Excessive extension cord usage
High electrical draw equipment brought into the property
If repeated tripping occurs, guests will be asked to reduce or stop the activity causing the overload.
Continued electrical overloading may:
Damage appliances or electrical systems
Create safety concerns
Result in temporary loss of power to parts of the property
Understanding the System
The breaker system is functioning exactly as intended when it trips. Its purpose is to protect:
Guests
The property
Appliances
The electrical infrastructure itself
A breaker tripping is comparable to a safety shutoff — not a failure of the property.
We appreciate guest cooperation and understanding regarding this matter. If assistance is needed at any point during your stay, our team is available to help.
Outdoor lights are on an automatic timer or sensor, so there’s no need to worry about those as they will turn on and off on their own.
🌿 Please Turn Lights Off When Not in Use
We kindly ask guests to turn off lights when leaving a room or when they’re not needed.
