At Hilltop Retreat, we aim to provide a comfortable and accommodating experience for all guests, including those traveling with electric vehicles. As EV adoption continues to grow, we understand the importance of access to charging. That said, as a private rural property, our setup differs from commercial charging stations, and we’ve outlined everything you need to know below.
🔌 Charging Options & Pricing
Charging Type | Description | Speed | Price (Per Vehicle) | Notes |
Level 1 (Standard Outlet) | 120V outdoor outlet | Slow (6–8 km/hr) | $25/day | Available upon request only |
Level 2 (Future Add-On) | Dedicated EV charger | Moderate (25–40 km/hr) | $40–$60/day | Planned upgrade |
Charger Rental (Portable Level 2) | Temporary unit provided by host | Moderate | $30/day rental + $20 usage fee | Requires setup + approval |
🔌 Current Charging Availability
At this time, Hilltop Retreat does not offer a dedicated EV charging station (Level 2 or fast charger).
However, standard outdoor electrical outlets (Level 1 charging) may be made available upon request and approval.
⚠️ Important: Approval Required
EV charging is not automatically included with your stay.
All guests must:
Request approval in advance
Confirm intended usage
Agree to applicable fees
Unauthorized use of outdoor outlets for vehicle charging is strictly prohibited.
💰 Standard Charging Rate
To account for electricity usage, infrastructure strain, and convenience, the following applies:
EV Charging Fee: $25 per night, per vehicle
What this covers:
Electricity consumption (including extended charging durations)
Delivery and service charges associated with hydro usage
Wear on electrical infrastructure
Private, on-site charging convenience
⚡ Charging Type & Limitations
If approved, charging will be:
Level 1 (standard outlet only)
Slow charging (typically adds ~6–8 km of range per hour)
Suitable for overnight or gradual top-ups—not rapid charging
🚫 Prohibited Uses
The following are not permitted under any circumstances:
RV or camper hookups
High-voltage or modified charging setups
Running extension cables across the property
Connecting multiple high-draw devices to the same outlet
Charging without prior approval
🛑 Electrical Capacity & Usage Expectations
Hilltop Retreat operates on a residential electrical system designed for standard household use.
As such:
Charging availability may be limited or restricted
Guests may be asked to disconnect if system demand is high
We reserve the right to deny or discontinue access at any time to protect the property
⚠️ Liability Disclaimer
Guests assume full responsibility for:
The safety and compatibility of their charging equipment
Proper use of outlets and extension cables
Any damage to their vehicle, equipment, or the property
Hilltop Retreat is not liable for:
Charging interruptions
Power fluctuations
Equipment malfunctions
Vehicle damage or insufficient charging performance
🌱 A Note on Sustainability
We support the transition toward electric mobility and are actively exploring future infrastructure upgrades, including dedicated EV charging solutions.
At this time, our current setup is intended to provide limited, responsible access while maintaining the integrity of the property.
FAQs
Where is the outlet located?
This depends on vehicle placement and may require coordination. Please inquire ahead of time.
Can I use my own extension cord?
Only if it is:
Outdoor-rated
In good condition
Used safely without creating hazards
Improper setups are not permitted.
Can I plug in for just a few hours and avoid the fee?
No. The rate applies to any use of EV charging, regardless of duration.
How fast will my car charge?
Level 1 charging is slow. Expect:
~6–8 km of range per hour
Best suited for overnight charging
Why is there a fee if electricity is relatively inexpensive?
The fee reflects:
Continuous and variable power draw
Infrastructure usage
Convenience of private access
Operational overhead
Why a flat nightly rate?
Unlike commercial stations, we do not meter individual usage. Charging times and consumption can vary significantly depending on the vehicle, battery level, and duration plugged in.
A flat rate ensures:
Fairness across all usage scenarios
Simplicity for guests
Protection against excessive or continuous draw
Why EV but not RVs, Campers & Trailers?
EV charging is limited to short-term vehicle charging only. RVs and similar setups require continuous power and are not supported by our electrical system.
Will you be installing a faster charger in the future?
Possibly. We are evaluating options based on demand and infrastructure feasibility.
