⛳ Golf Getaway

Golf Getaways at Hilltop Retreat tend to follow a relaxed, flexible rhythm — early tee times if you want them, slow mornings if you don’t. The area offers a mix of challenging championship-style courses, scenic countryside fairways, and approachable layouts suitable for casual rounds.

One of the benefits of staying here is that you’re not locked into a single course. Many guests choose to rotate courses across multiple days, selecting based on weather, tee time availability, or how ambitious they’re feeling that morning.

What to Expect as a Golfer

  • Minimal travel time to several courses, making same-day play easy

  • Courses that range from technical and competitive to scenic and forgiving

  • Quiet surroundings in the evenings, ideal for unwinding after a full day on the course

  • Plenty of space back at the retreat to relax, recap rounds, or plan the next day

Whether your group is focused on scorecards or just enjoying time outdoors, the area supports both styles well. Hilltop Retreat is well-situated for golfers looking to play multiple courses within a single trip. Below are popular options with approximate drive times from the property:

Cobourg (town with beach, historic Victoria Hall, boutique shopping, marina, dining)

South West ("twin" courses between Cobourg and Port Hope, but north)

Port Hope (small heritage town)

Peterborough (city north in the Kawarthas, on the opposite side of Rice Lake)

  • Keystone - Closest (30 mins North)

  • Going further into the city, your options become abundant:

🕒 Tee Times & Daily Flow

Many guests opt for morning tee times, returning to the retreat mid-afternoon to relax, grill, or head into a nearby town for dinner. Others prefer later tee times and slow mornings at the property.

Because several courses are within a short drive, it’s easy to:

  • Adjust plans if weather shifts

  • Play one course in the morning and explore a nearby town later

  • Split the group if players want different experiences

🧭 Course Variety (Why Groups Like This Area)

The surrounding region is popular with golf groups because it offers:

  • Elevation changes and rolling terrain

  • Tree-lined fairways and open countryside holes

  • Courses that feel distinct from one another rather than repetitive

This makes it well-suited for multi-day stays where players want variety without long drives between rounds.

🍽️ Post-Round Options

After golfing, many guests enjoy:

  • Heading into town (Cobourg or Port Hope) or the city (Peterborough) for dinner, drinks, and entertainment

  • Shopping or picking up takeout and enjoying a quiet night back at the retreat

  • Additional activities and/or decompressing after the day

The setting allows for low-key evenings without the noise or congestion of busier resort areas.

📌 A Note on Planning

Guests are responsible for booking their own tee times and coordinating directly with golf courses. We’re happy to share general area information, but we intentionally keep the stay flexible so groups can plan their days exactly how they prefer.

Casual Practice on the Property

Hilltop Retreat offers a large outdoor space that some guests choose to use for light, casual golf practice, such as putting or short chipping, during their stay.

This is not a golf facility and there are no designated tees, greens, targets, or equipment provided. Any casual practice is done at guests’ own discretion and responsibility.

Guidelines:

  • Practice should be limited to putting or short chips only

  • No full swings or driving

  • Guests must ensure balls are kept well clear of buildings, vehicles, and neighbouring properties

  • Guests must retrieve all balls

  • Golf balls and equipment are not provided

  • No digging, staking, or alteration of the grounds is permitted

  • Neighbours are not to be disturbed, affected, or inconvenienced in any way, shape, or form.

  • Any damage caused is the responsibility of the guest and may forfeit security deposit

Many guests enjoy this simply as a relaxed way to pass time outdoors between rounds at nearby courses.
